“Still Knives”
Thanks to 44AD, in Bath, I was granted a Flash Residency, which has given me the space to re-engage with art after a six-year gap. During that time, I’d suffered a major bereavement, and my work is centred around finding ways to give visual voice to that sense of invisible pain.

Ultimately, we do the best we can, making of our lives something beautiful, hopeful and bright. But underneath, the pain is there. Underneath, there are still knives.
Using household items, I’ve explored the idea that beauty is present – not just despite our difficulties, but because of them. Because of the courage, and the will it takes to work around them.

With this work I aim to show that the small things can be beautiful, worthy and inspiring, and to celebrate all those graciously dealing with their own difficulties or sense of loss.
